Things can sit in a spot in my house for months on end. I know this because I have a blue sweatshirt that has found it’s home in my living room for the past two months. This is made more interesting by the fact that I have only owned said blue sweatshirt for three months. So therefore, instead of spending most of its time on me or in my closet, the two things for which a sweatshirt holds purpose, it has spent most of its ‘young life’ on a chair in my living room. I recognized that it was there, and I acknowledged its existence, yet I did nothing to end its predicament. I have passed by this blue sweatshirt on many occasions. And on these occasions, I have considered picking it up, or putting it on, or even washing is. And yet, for the last two months I have allowed my blue sweatshirt to sit in my living room, collecting dust. It is truly a curious affair. It’s not a bad blue sweatshirt; even though the color still leaves something to be desired, it’s soft, comfortable, and not entirely undesirable.  So, really, there is no reason as to why this blue sweatshirt should be forced to spend its existence in my living room. And yet, that is where it sits. This blue sweatshirt, made to be worn, washed, and worn again, and found its home amongst a family of light bulbs, window plastic, and a Lamb Chop doll. It makes me start to wonder how long the light bulbs, window plastic, and Lamb Chop doll have been in my living room. I remember then being, right along with the blue sweatshirt, and yet, still they sit there. They are with purpose, but without place, and I suppose that is how they, along with the blue sweatshirt, will stay until I feel the need to move them.
